Iceland Activities

Whale Watching

A trip to go whale watching has to be a trip of a life time. There are many destinations including Australia and South Africa where whales can be viewed but a special place has to be Iceland! Iceland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with some amazing landscapes and activities.

It is thought that one quarter of the planets cetacean species have been recorded in Iceland's waters. Minke whale, humpback whale, blue whale, fin whale, sei whale, sperm whale, orca, pilot whale, white-beaked dolphin and harbour porpoise are regularly encountered.

In 1997 three rare northern bottlenose whales appeared and caused a big stir.

The Icehotel

The Icehotel - arguabley one of the coolest hotels in the world can be found in the cold months of winter in Sweden.

The hotel is built using 5000 tons of ice from the Torne river, the hotel, rooms, bar, chapel, reception and all of the everyday items are made from purely from ice.

The hotel is open from December to April every year and then melts and returns back to the river from where it came.

The Icehotels character is different every year as it is rebuilt from scratch, with artists submitting their designs for rooms, the bar and the recption. 50 artists and sculptors are choosen from a panel to build their designs out of ice.

The Icehotel in Sweden is the most famous, but there are others found in Canada, Finland and Romania.

Canada
